Simple Acceptance

Have you ever been around a new born at birth? I have been a birthing coach a few times, had my own sons…so this is melded in my heart. It cries…it is expected to cry and should cry. Do you know what usually calms that cry? It is actually a a rather universal solution….place that child in its’ momma’s arms. You will hear the soothing whispers of that mother and soon those cries disappear.

A three year old says “look what I did Mommy” This child wants Mommy to see what he did! He wants her to be proud of him.

The teen years pose a somewhat different need. Acceptance by friends and peers. Wear the right clothes, say the correct things. Continue reading Simple Acceptance

Teachers make an Incredible (not Simple) Difference!

It is here! School is beginning.

I have written previously of the fact that I am not teaching this year. Which, in turn, made me wonder about the impact I made on my students’ lives over the years. I could pretend to be humble and say “I am not sure”, but that would be wrong.

I do know that I made an impact, I have been blessed with letters and notes to prove it.  These are often few and far between in the world of special education, so I do cherish them.

AND…. In spite of the struggles you face with the things that are so difficult these days…..be encouraged as you begin another year~

Mr./Mrs. TEACHER……
YOU are making a difference in the life of…..
at the very LEAST…
One child a year…..
multiply that by the number of years you have taught………………
AND I can guarantee you it is more than one a year!! Continue reading It is SIMPLE…..Teachers: YOU make a DIFFERENCE!

Simple Blink

Don’t do it.

                Blink….

There was a time in my life when I thought I couldn’t blink enough times nor quick enough!!

I was knee deep in cheerios, literally.  This “type A” personality gal tried so hard to organize the toys in color coded, labeled bends.  That way they could be read by the boys as they “picked up” after themselves …….which I eventually considered to be a lesson well taught if one or two items a piece ended up in the proper location.

Sleeping    became   a     luxury…..a      dream….

Redefined as any amount of time that equaled 4 hours or more..straight.  Funny, now I often go to bed and wake up 4 hours later, read and think nothing of not getting a full night’s sleep.  I can always rest during the day. Continue reading Simple Blink
