I am not going to lie.
I like clothes. I totally enjoy working part time in a clothing boutique. It is fun to “try on” new clothes and see how they look and feel.
It would be easy at this point to say that it doesn’t matter what I wear (and it really doesn’t) but I do like looking nice and “false humility” is not my game.
But what am I really clothed in that matters?
“So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.” Galatians 3:26-27
Colossians 3:9-10 “Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.”
Ephesians 4:22-24 “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
The interesting thing about these scriptures (and several others) is that the translation for “put on” is: to sink into (clothing), put on, clothe one’s self
So believer, we are truly “Clothed in Christ”. We are new. I like to think of the fact that I have “sunk into” Christ! Sure, my flesh is weak and I mess up. That flesh has not been redeemed. But my spirit has…and that is what I have to remember I am wearing!
How wonderful is that news?
I got a soft sweater on sale the other day. It was very comfortable and felt wonderful on. No itchy, scratchy feel to it at all. I probably could wear it daily. It even looked soft!
It was a sweet reminder of what I am clothed in….
What are you wearing today my friend?
Oh and by the way….it is okay to buy that sweater, after all it is probably on sale now!
