We are currently in the process of transferring our old VCR tapes to DVD. It is a long, tedious process. But VCR tapes are known not to last more than 20 years and some of ours have outlived their lifespan. Or at least I hope they outlive that age until I can play them one more time for recording.
I am using the “Toshiba DVR620 DVD/VHS Recorder” which I found on Amazon. I am sure there are other quality recorders, this is just the one I chose. For me hooking it up to the TV was the hardest part.
A relatively simple process, it takes time because we are playing the tapes as we dub them. I am sure there would be a “faster” way to record at a quicker speed, but we are enjoying the memories. After the DVD is full, you “finalize” the disc and you are done!
We are being reminded of those loved ones that are with us no longer, people once in our life that have moved and the speed in which our boys have grown up.
If I had children at home right now we would have a great winter project for them! I have divided the tapes into decades (80’s, 90’s and 2000’s) and will record accordingly. Each DVD is of course labeled and I know they will last longer than the DVD’s. So many educational possibilities there!!
So it is MY winter project!!
It got me thinking…as usual…
I can just see the Father looking at my life through the decades. There are moments that would make Him laugh, and those that would make Him cry. Moments in which He would encourage me to savor and not rush through. Moments that He would remind me just how much He loved me.
He loves like that…unconditionally.
“I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.Remember that as you set out in this New Year. Remember that as you “record” those precious memories that are ever so fleeting. Hang on to them physically if possible, yes…but don’t miss being “in the moment” either. Ephesians 3:16-19
