Simple Change
No, I am not writing about making change at a cash register…
although I could write an entire blog on the “inability” of people to actually
make change without the aide of the computer…and then I might be border line “Common Core”
…..so I will save that one!
I am talking about the change…
in our lives…
that takes place upon our salvation.
Over the years raising the boys, we had many changes take place. Many took place out of necessity, many out of choice. The change in our hearts is one that occurs upon accepting the Lord as our Savior. Any yet, I have seen many people struggle with that change that takes place.
It seems faith and change walk hand in hand. When the disciples asked Jesus in the book of Matthew who was the greatest in the kingdom of heaven…he replied…”I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:3-4
Why change and become like children?
Because of their brutal honesty, faith, humility and their ability to simply act in faith. If I told one of my little guys to jump from the bed and I would catch him…there might be a bit of hesitation, but they always jumped. They knew by faith..that their momma would catch them!
We will, as believers, experience CHANGE when we are born again. We change from the “old man” into the “new man”. This is a complete change..but it requires faith. A faith that says I believe that this is true and a faith that says we will open up our heart to him and allow Him to dwell.
I cannot help but reference a caterpillar right now. As autumn is at the door, we are seeing many caterpillars. They are a prediction of the winter to come…but we see them as they are….do we see them as they are really???
We all know the stages of a butterfly: Egg, Larva, Pupa, Butterfly. This is a wonderful site to explore for more information:
http://www.thebutterflysite.com/life-cycle.shtml
They are caterpillars, yes…but they are also ultimately butterflies. We know as they go through the stages that the butterfly will emerge. We just don’t “see” it yet. We may think we are just the caterpillars…but if we have accepted His salvation by faith, whether we see it or not…we are butterflies!
Our kids get it…they look upon that caterpillar in that glass jar with all the leaves and twigs…they know. One morning the caterpillar is gone and the pupa has appeared! They wake each morning in wonder…they KNOW that the change is there, it is just a matter of time before it manifests itself.
Ah, the faith of a child….so simple.
Have we allowed the Lord to manifest His life through ours? Or are we still in the caterpillar stage?
It is that simple….change.
