Ordinary People~Extraordinary Things

God uses Ordinary People to do

I use to tell my kids this when they were growing up: “I don’t care what career you have when you grow up as long as you love God and let Him love others through you.”

They heard it a lot. And I meant it because I struggled for years with “am I doing enough?” I chose to believe that unless I was in a tropical rainforest somewhere as a missionary, I was not doing “enough” for God.

But God uses “Ordinary people to do Extraordinary things.”

Check out the people from the Bible and how the Father used them!! I will start with Abraham, Noah, David…Mary! The list never stops!

But, first things first….Knowing that God loves us without condition. Unless we understand that it doesn’t matter what we DO or what we DON’T do…God still loves us; we will struggle for the rest of our lives. I believe that is the most important thing we can ever teach our children.

Always remembering that it is their choice….we cannot make them believe that….but we must do all we can do to teach it and model it.

Henry Blackaby (www.blackaby.net) has a course that my husband I took over 20 years ago entitled “Experiencing God”. We were taught that God was at work all around us and we just got to join Him wherever that was if we chose to.

That is the kicker….He doesn’t need us folks. We get to be a part of His work if we join Him and we are blessed. He will use someone else if we don’t participate…

Paul said this in Acts 17:24-25 “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else.”

So what can we teach our children? To love those that we come in contact with…getting to know God’s character and who His and allowing Him to live “in us” is what it is all about.  It will carry us through our entire life, no matter our career choice.

I will continue this on Wednesday….keep an open mind and an open heart…

And remember,

“God uses Ordinary people to do Extraordinary things”

I’m Sorry

What????

“Who dropped those crumbs all over the kitchen floor” I said to the boys.  “Not me” said the eldest, “I didn’t do it either” said the youngest.

“Well one of you got crumbs all over my clean kitchen floor” I said in a voice that I was not proud of. “I have cleaned the bathroom and worked so hard on this floor.  Our friends are coming over tonight and I don’t want to have to mop it again!”

“But Mom, he must have done it because I did not!”  “Nuh-uh, I did not!” Then the arguing and accusations  ran rampant. Continue reading I’m Sorry

Happy Birthday To my Sons’ Dad!

Happy Birthday to an Incredible Man!

My hubby of almost 35 years will be 55 years of age on December 4. If you do the math (avoiding Common Core) you will see that we were mere babes when we married!

But I write this blog entitled “Teacher Mom Always” and Dad needs to be somewhere in that title.

You see, my two adult sons have had the most wonderful man as a father. The role model he has been for them has been incredible. How do I know?

I watch them with their wives. They treat their wives with the utmost tenderness…as my husband did and does me. Oh yes, and they tease them incessantly..as my husband did and still does!!  And they understand the love of their heavenly Father.

Children need this in their lives. And ours were blessed with the best.

No matter how tired he was when he came in from work, some nights not until 8:30pm…he spent time with the boys in some capacity. Either a whiffle ball game, card game, biking…you name it.

So Happy Birthday to the most incredible Dad I know.

Thank you for allowing the boys to see a wonderful role model. And thank you for allowing them to understand the unconditional love of their heavenly Father.

Because of you dearest husband, they get it…in many ways.
