Coastal Dune Lakes are a very rare natural phenomena that only occur in a handful of locations around the globe, including New Zealand, Australia, Madagascar and South Walton, Florida. No risk of large waves, no currents, no shark attacks. Plus, amazingly it is a fresh body of water just feet from the salty ocean!
People wade, kayak and feel very comfortable and safe. We were mesmerized by them when we visited in Florida.
You can have fun there to be sure, but you kind of miss out on some things. Standing with your back to those large waves and giggling with your kids and hubby as they hit you with a powerful source and send you down!
The sharks are not something that are inviting, but you don’t get to find the salt water creatures, feel the sand in-between your toes as the wave recedes.
And the salt in the water. How terrible to be at the beach with the ocean right in front of you and miss bobbing and floating in water that simply holds you up by being there!
It makes me think of the things we might be called to do in our lives. We allow a bit of fear get in the way of a lot of faith. We choose to stay in the safe dune lakes rather than wade out into the beautiful ocean because of what “might happen.”
I have been doing that a lot lately. Staying in the safe place.
While I love the safety, I think it is time to venture out into the waters a bit. Is there something keeping you in that safe place, or are you ready to step out in faith to that huge, salty body of water?
