Encouragement for Today

Sleeping Mask

At night it is recommended that we have total darkness to sleep well.  But quite frankly I find it is impossible! I cover up the wifi light, I turn off the night lights. My humidifier’s light is off. But soon my eyes adjust and the little light coming from my diffuser, the windows which have blinds…and any other little thing that emits light has overcome the darkness.

So much for the recommended thought of sleeping in complete darkness. My goodness, when I turn over even my Fitbit lights up!  Light overcomes the darkness every.single.night.

This scripture spoke to me with such power. In HIM was life and light. The most incredible truth that I was reminded of is The Light. The LIGHT shines on….in the darkness. Now here is the part that I had to be reminded of….it(the darkness)does not understand it and is unreceptive to it. And it cannot overpower it or appropriate it or absorb it.

Wow.

The New International Version says it this way “Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

When someone is in the dark, they simply cannot understand The Light. This does not mean “a light” but “The Light”, the same light as in John 8:12 when Jesus said He was The Light.

So where does that leave us? Praying for The Light to be revealed, chosen and embraced…maybe like never before.

Oh yeah…and I think I will buy a sleeping mask.

I love Jesus. If I say nothing else, that is enough. But for those curiosity seekers, I am a 56 year old former special education teacher, current part time CCM Radio Announcer who is married to her high school sweetheart. We have been together for 40 years, married 37 of those years! We have raised two sons, who are now married, have jobs and mortgages. We have our furry son, a West Highland Terrier. It wasn't always easy, and I like sharing some insights from those "mommy" and "teaching" years. I also want to encourage people in their daily life. I believe that the Father speaks to us all the time, sometimes I have been too busy to listen. Even during times of trials and troubles, He is ever present. ~Be Encouraged Today~
