The New Year is upon us as the Christmas season gets packed away. Even packing away the Christmas tree and decorations makes the house seem large. It is weird how much bigger the house looks now. And yes, I say that…..
Every. Single. Year.
We fast forward through the “lose weight” commercials that seem to be on every channel now. Even social media is giving me exercise equipment suggestions. There are blogs on “New Year’s Resolutions” and all that entails……
Every. Single. Year.
It is the same routine. We decide what we need to do..what we need to do differently. How we need to: eat less, eat clean, don’t eat meat……..drink more water, stop drinking soda, drink more coffee, drink less coffee…….. walk more steps, run at least a mile a day, take up Zumba, get a fitbit…..help more people, volunteer somewhere, visit the sick and elderly more often,…….give more money, save more money, invest more money…..
Where does it end?
It is enough to get you down. Why?
Because it is a list of “do’s and don’ts” to make you a better individual. Start of the New Year in the right way! While none of those activities or goals are bad in and of themselves…and the Father indeed leads us all to do different things. It is just that….
None of them will make you a better person. None of them will make God love you more…or less. And we cannot do any of them constantly in our own strength. We put ourselves under the “law” and inevitably we fail. It is like being told on a sign in a store “Do Not Touch This”, and what do we want to do? Yep……
Every. Single. Year.
He loves you. No matter what you’ve done. No matter what you think you’ve done. No matter what you are doing, or what you will do tomorrow. Your behaviors do not affect His love for you. And neither will your failure at keeping your new “goals” or “resolutions”.
His love is unconditional….
Every. Single. Minute…of…. Every. Single. Hour….of…… Every.Single. Day…..of….
Every.Single. Year.
Nothing can change it. You might find that very hard to believe. And it really is hard to believe if you try to make any sense of it at all. But it is very true. And it is by faith in Jesus Christ that I know that.
Every. Single. Year.
Welcome 2016!
