Not Just Reading Glasses…

ANIMATED%20GLASSES

It used to just be reading glasses…

Do you like to read?  I must say it is one of my favorite past times…but usually it is late at night and I fall asleep before I get through three pages!  But I still enjoy reading anything put in front of me.

There in lies the problem.  When I turned 40 my arms simply were not long enough. As time went on, I transferred from just reading glasses to the tri focal version.  And at 58, they are the first thing I grab in the morning.  They certainly amplify the words, and quite frankly, everything else I lay eyes on! All these things appear larger than they really are…but they indeed are true in image and focus.

I am so grateful for the ability to actually see better.  Looking through these glasses really gives me perspective of what I am looking at.

I contend that the Father gives us His eyes if we allow Him to do so. If we see personal problems and issues of this world through His eyes, somehow they become so much clearer.  They don’t go away and we still might not understand.  But I have found that I can deal with personal problems with much different “vision”.

Jesus gets it folks. When no one else understands, He does. He sees it with clarity, and although we may not really understand, we can always trust Him. I know from experience.

So I need my glasses. I am grateful with the “clarity” in which I now see…trust me, they help in many ways…..

Don’t tell anyone I have gotten in the shower and wondered why my eyes got cloudy!

Winter of the Soul

Image

Winter is a season….sometimes of the Soul!

We’ve had very cold temps of late. My skin is dry, our heating bills are up. Our humidifier is running non-stop!

The only flowers I have seen of late are in plastic containers in the grocery store, but they are beautiful and fragrant.

The grass it is brown and tired.  It has been frozen a number of times already and looks like it may never be green again.  Falling on this ground would not be forgiving I am afraid.

There is one thing that never changes.  It does not wither, fade or quit being useful.  It stands forever and provides beauty, color, fragrance in our life.  It does not fail.  It has withstood many tests of oppression.  It does not perish in any way.  It cushions our blow, our fall, our jump.

What is this thing?  Yes, it is the Word of God. And the Word of God is love.

There are so many people hurting today.  They are dealing with death, cancer, illness of all kinds.  We all have been there or will be there someday.  I call these times the “winter of the soul”. But in this life we are not promised it will be easy. Jesus told us in John….“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

So dear friends, be encouraged this day.  It may be “winter”,  but spring is right around the corner! Be on the lookout for those pink flowers!

Middle Age Pause?

If you know me well, this desk does not look like mine at all.

I am a planner.  I have always believed things work better if organized.  Many factors, including teaching and being married to a man that is worse(or better)than me have contributed.

So what has happened to me?  I think of something and if I don’t write it down right at that very minute I might lose it!

I “accidentally” found a book in a drawer yesterday that I don’t remember.  There it sat with my Hebrew/Greek Study Bible in a drawer.  I pulled it out with a large question mark emblazoned on my forehead.

The title? “Second Calling” by Dale Hanson Bourke.  This was not a familiar author.  “Finding passion and purpose for the rest of your life.”  Hmmmm, what perfect timing.

“But now, as we pause in our middle years, we begin to see some boundaries.”  “You are softer, gentler, wiser, and calmer than you have ever been.  You are emerging from the whirlwind of your youth and seeing the present more clearly.  You are becoming more fully and completely who you are created to be.”  Dale then goes on with the story of Naomi, not Ruth, but Naomi.

I “quit” teaching six years ago and knew what I was called to do.  I just was not sure in which direction I would be going.  It was rather frightening, but I had to trust.

This book is not only timely and a gift from my Father, but a similar idea is on one of those dozen of pieces of papers you see on my desk. Confirmation.

I am an encourager.  That is what I am called to do.  I am back at the radio station now for almost 4 years, and now I am more confident in my writing skills.  I will just follow.

Friends….I may just be getting started.  God is not finished with me yet.  And He is not finished with you either.

Now excuse me while this “softer, wiser” middle aged person pauses and organizes her desk!!
