Start then Switch!

Some things never change…and some things do!

I have been to some baby showers lately and have been asked to write down good advice for the mama. Of course my “expertise” is simply raising two boys, and the good Lord knows that I did not do a “perfect” job. I do believe we all learned together.

Other than the obvious “love them with all your hear” stuff, this practical advice is the answer to the “mothering” and “teaching” equation.

The emphasis…..TALK to your babies.

Teachable Moments

They are everywhere. My assumption that every parent saw them has been incorrect. Some are valid reasons…some, not so valid. But in my experience I have come to realize that not everyone knows how to “teach” and capture these moments.

My husband used to give me such a hard time when I would teach something to our Bible class without preparation. Oh, I would prepare for our selected topic each week, but inevitably some other topic would come up and we would head another direction! He did not feel like he could do it….he said because I was a “teacher” it was easier.  But he always did great, he just didn’t have the confidence.

I am not sure that I believe that it was just because I was a “teacher” but based on some recent conversations, I get that for some, those “teachable moments” are hard to recognize. That being said, I thought I would use some examples. Continue reading Teachable Moments

The Colors of Fall

My husband knows me too well. We went to a state park today and I was snapping pictures, admiring the colors of fall.

“You are going to write about this in some way, aren’t you?” he said with a smile on his face. “Yep”. After three years of dating and almost 35 years of marriage, I might be a little disappointed if he didn’t know me by now!

What a wonderful time to talk to children about the handiwork of God and creation. I know that I have blogged several times about nature and God’s creation, but how can one not see what He has created and be in awe? Continue reading The Colors of Fall
