Stove Knobs- Part 2

I know that you have been waiting with anticipation to find out the rest of the stove knob story! But I promise there is a point.

Remember the toolbox that was in my reach the whole time? Well…

Ephesians 4:11-15 “And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ

We are already “equipped” with all we need as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ! We don’t have to be a pastor, missionary or music leader! We are all equipped to build the body of Christ. To work toward unity of the faith and of the knowledge. This knowledge means “an intense knowledge because of thorough participation in the object of that knowledge” (Strongs). In other words, not just a head knowledge of who Christ is, but a Heart knowledge of who He is to you.

The verse goes on to talk about the “perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ..” Of course the perfect man is full grown as opposed to little children. Fullness in Christ means that Christ has filled us with all kinds of gifts and dwells and walks in it, the body. God was in his fullness and not simply a manifestation, Jesus was fully God and fully man. This means more than just being filled with food. You know, how you eat and eat and say that you are full and two hours later you are eating again. You weren’t really full. THIS fullness means there is no room for anything else!! God alone is enough to fill us!

We have been given a “toolbox” but sometimes don’t even know we have it..we don’t know how to access it, or we just ignore that we have everything we need! God has given us what we need to get through all that swirls around us, and to help others as well.

Of course there are times when we don’t feel “full” of Christ, or totally immersed in Him. There are times when we don’t think that we can get through the hurts we are experiencing…and then God sends someone our way to say the right thing, pray the right prayer, or give the right amount of money we need. When there are those times that nothing seems to be happening, be must believe what He taught us was true! We must retrain our brain to rest in Him.

So get out that tool box and see what kind of tools the Father has equipped you with…see what tools need to be used. Don’t let it lay on the floor! Who knows, you might have the right tools to help someone fix the knobs on someone’s stove!!

Solid Food

baby with food

The time under our roof is short lived to be sure….solid food available!

We have heard it or said it…”where has the time gone?” when referring to the speed in which our children grew up.  The toddler in the stroller who loved being pushed down the road is now waving out his window as he drives to his first job. The little guy who recorded his voice on the tape recorder now is a grown man answering his cell phone. And those little shoe strings that I seemed to tie forever now are tied by the adult with a shoe size of 11. So when did this happen?

I believe that all parents go through a time of questioning about faith from their children.  The time we have them under the protection of our homes is so short.  So little time to teach them the things of the Lord and how to deal with the pain and hurt that will inevitably come their way.  When they were small, a kiss and a band aide fixed the “boo-boo”.  That doesn’t always work as they get older.

The last couple of weeks I have talked to some parents whose children are truly rebelling, or being “prodigal” as I sometimes say.  I don’t know the condition of their hearts, but I know that these parents have raised them in the ways of the Lord.  These children for some reason or another have chosen another path.  How my heart aches for these parents, and these children.

My thoughts were rather simple, love them unconditionally and keep praying.  It is a spiritual battle.  Entering into that battle as a parent….was and is truly battle.  They aren’t little anymore.

I nursed my infants.  They received the nutrition necessary at that time.  But as they grew, their need for solid food increased.  And if anyone of you has raised, or is about to raise boys….stock your refrigerator NOW!

Peter talked of it in scripture: “Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.” 1 Peter 2:2.  Paul says in 1 Corinthians 3:2 “Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual but as worldly-mere infants in Christ.  I gave you milk, not solid food for you are not yet ready.” and in Hebrews 5:13-14 “Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness.  But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.”

What do babies need to grow physically?  What do our children need as spiritual newborns?  What do we need?  As we continue to grow and teach our children, we must provide them spiritual food as well!  Could this be deeper discussions, asking our children to share their thoughts on scripture?  Are we satisfied with just the “Sunday” teaching, or do we want more ourselves?  When we are hungry, what feeds us?

I don’t pretend to have all the answers.  But I will encourage you in this…make teaching, reading and discussing His Word an important part of your day and your children’s day.   I was always blown away by some of the insights the boys had as little guys.  My prayer was always that they hid the WORD in their hearts…pray that your children will desire a deeper walk.  Pray for that as they get out from under your protection…and question lots of things.  Keep that line of communication open so that they will bring you their doubts and you can continue to guide them to “solid food”.

They won’t live under that roof forever, so prepare them as best you can…encourage them with “solid food.”

Blessings dear ones..

Stove Knobs Part 1

How to fix the stove knob. Part 1

That was my google search. My knob needed fixed, at the time my husband was at work. To say that I am mechanical in anyway would be a complete and utter lie. Quite frankly, my husband does not claim that talent either. However, to say that I am stubborn is the complete and utter truth. Or we could say determined…you may decide. Nevertheless, the search began!

I soon found the stove make and model and realized that I needed some special tools that did not include the small hammer and kitchen knife I used for every other “fix it” job I encountered. So, I opened the door of my husband’s shed…and yes, the toolbox was calling my name! Everything I ever needed to fix anything I needed fixed was right there!! Those tools had been there forever, but I really never knew I had them at my disposal.

Armed and now ready for battle, I took my newly discovered toolbox and headed for the kitchen. I was ready to fix that knob. It sounded like a simple enough job, and remember…I was “determined”. With printed instructions in one hand and my toolbox in another, I began my session.

Many times I had the same thought…”what is this tool”? I could not even begin to know how to use them. What good was that tool chest going to do me I did not know what the tools were or what their purpose was? If the toolbox just laid next to me on the floor it was not doing any good either.

So as any determined woman would do, I headed to the internet again. “How to Use Tools” seemed logical. Yes, I found more instructions and you will be interested (or not) to know that I fixed that knob in ten minutes!! Even I was surprised at my accomplishment! I had the instructions and the tool box. Applying that knowledge with the tools I possessed solved the problem at hand.

Stay tuned to Part 2 of STOVE KNOBS” to find out what this means to you!! Ephesians 4:11-15…..It’s good stuff!
