Thanksgiving List

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.-7

My husband and I traveled to a wedding on Saturday. We had time to talk while on the road for the four-hour round trip.

And of course it is the time of year that we are reminded to “Be Thankful”. We started making our list.

We all think about those “Thankful” lists this time of year, but our prayer is that we will be mindful of those things on a daily basis. How quickly we forget.

We are thankful for so much. We are thankful for those things we often take for granted. The roof over our heads, the food on our table, our health, our freedom, our family….the list goes on forever.

Then Monday morning comes, we are in a hurry. We didn’t sleep well the night before and there are bags under our eyes. The coffee machine isn’t working right and even drinking what was available ended up down the front of the sweater we had on. It’s cold and the ice is a bear to get off the windshield. Gifts need bought for Christmas and there are extra bills due that weren’t expected…we won’t talk about the insurance changes.

And that doesn’t even include the daily news.

Then we forget the list.

We forget how fortunate we are. The list somehow disappears from the window of thanksgiving. It has been surrounded, kicked out and forgotten. In it’s place is frustration, irritation, anger, fear, concern and disappointment.

How quickly we forget!

We must remind ourselves daily just what we have…and the truth is it isn’t even contained on a list. Might that be the problem?

My list might be forgotten, but Christ is enough. He is at the top of my list. He is at the bottom….my word….

Christ Jesus-2

He is the entire list.

I can just whisper His name and peace descends upon me.

So maybe I don’t need to make lists that will be forgotten so easily. Maybe I just need to remember the name……….CHRIST JESUS.

For it is through HIM that all my thanksgiving flows.

“I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus.  For in him you have been enriched in every way—with all kinds of speech and with all knowledge— God thus confirming our testimony about Christ among you.” 1 Corinthians 1:4-6

So I think I will go grab and cup of coffee and just think of Jesus for a few minutes…then I will start on the cranberry salad!

IN CHRIST ALONE
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
