Dinner with the Best!

Let my Teaching 2

Last night I had dinner with 20 lovely people. People that I had the privilege being on staff with at one time or another over the last ten years of my teaching career.

I decided just to organize a time for all of us to get together and visit. I sincerely miss my teaching friends and staff at the school. I grew to love them as family. In fact, in a way it was my family.

We shared our love for teaching, our triumphs and victories. We were there for each other during our personal trials and life in general. We helped one another with students and situations that we couldn’t handle on our own.

Like family, we got frustrated with one another at times, and most of the time we were honest about it with each other! Some became better friends than others, but we most certainly cared for one another. We pretty much had each other’s back.

As I looked at our tables last night I realized that some were missing for various reasons. And it was dually noted. But I did get a bit misty eyed. Many of us were now in different seasons of life. But the memories came flooding back. We shared laughter and tears and it felt a bit like closure.

These people love what they do and what they did….. but many struggled with all the laws and requirements and all the changes that have almost overwhelmed them. And yet, they teach with all that they have and they keep loving their students.

“Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants.” Deuteronomy 32:2

They all were ready for summer, and rightfully so. I won’t defend their right to have a summer break (that would be a much longer blog)..but suffice it to say that they deserve one.

I am so thankful for those still teaching. We need them. As one of my friends said…she is ready for a break, but excited about the new year…new beginnings.

Proverbs 4:13 “Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life.”

My sincere blessings and prayers for those dear ones. May your summer be full of rest and relaxation. No one deserves it more!!

You all have my utmost admiration……
