Be Still and know….I “Got It”

Do you remember when one of your kids came to you crying with a splinter and you were trying to get it out of a finger?  “Be still” were the two words out of your mouth.  Their purpose?  To make that little guy sit still so you could keep from digging that flame sterilized needle into your baby’s already pounding finger!

My little guys always were in the “know”.  They knew that their momma would get that splinter out.  If they were very still, that splinter came out quicker and with less pain. They trusted me, they knew me..I was their momma.

“Be still”…this brings quiet, calm, serenity to a very stressful time.  We quit moving.  We stop.  We don’t talk, we just listen. In Hebrew grammar this means we surrender.  We surrender in order to know that God is in control as Ribbono Shel Olam, the Master of the Universe. We let go because we believe in the saving power of the Father in our lives.  We surrender, knowing that “God’s got this”.

Webster says “Know” means “to perceive or understand as fact or truth; to apprehend clearly and with certainty; To have established or fixed in the mind or memory: to know a poem by heart; to be cognizant or aware of.  The Hebrew, “yada” has several meanings, but in this passage it means “to have an intimate kind of knowledge.”

“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10   God was assuring Israel, just as He reassures us.

No matter your trials, the winds that blow your way…Jesus spoke “Hush, be still” in Mark (4:39)  May our hearts be still and know intimately, by trust that He’s “got it.”

If I could take care of my son’s splintered finger, how much more can the Father take care of us?

BIG MOON: Faithful witness…

Image I am looking at that big, orange orb currently shining through the trees as I sit on my pack porch.  As a teacher, after today, I predicted it was a full moon.  Something to be said about that, I am telling you!! But I digress….

Are you old enough to remember looking out the door with your brother the night man “first walked on the moon”?  We swore we could see him walking, and yet as Walter Cronkite described it and may have even showed it via live feed (I don’t remember, after all it was several years ago), we were mesmerized by the thought that someone was that far away and that God knew it!

And I still am mesmerized!  God knows it too.  As i look at it even now, the peace is “touchable” and that is the kind of peace we all want and need. I have had some uncomfortable circumstances surround my life in recent weeks.  NOTHING life threatening and there are far worse problems had by many….but there are still issues.

So, I have decided to heed my own advice that I have so often given to others….nothing is too big or too small for the Father.  HE gets it, He understands.  He values you, He loves you, and He wants you to learn from these experiences.  He doesn’t want this trial or set of issues wasted.  He knows you better than you know yourself. He will use this, if you let Him.

He created that “big moon”.  He created you.  There is nothing we cannot get through..little or small..by anyone’s definition.  He is walking hand in hand with us, or better yet..carrying us.  That big moon is my reminder this evening…the faithful witness.

be Blessed friends….

“The grace of The Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.”  1 Timothy 1:14

“it will be established forever, like the moon, the faithful witness in the sky” Psalm 89:37

Giving and Taking Back!

My blog entry sounds “inappropriate ” as my students might say.  It is rude to give something away and take it back!  And in this case, I would say that was true as well!

A friend I and I were talking after school about God, His love for us in all situations and how we must trust in and find peace in HIM. Sounds great!  I want to do it….but I often leave things/ problems/worries/concerns at His feet and turn around several hours later, or even minutes later and pick them right back up!!

He always has it covered, then I reach down, shake off the coverage and take it back to worry about again.  He always has it covered!!!! Why must I do that?

It seems as though the bigger the issue, the easier it is for me to lay it down because I can’t change it and I know it. But the smaller stuff, I guess I think I can handle it, fix it or get an answer myself, so I either hang on or wrestle to keep it.

I’m kind of like a little kid who finds something In a store and picks it up, then lays it down realizing it is not his to keep!  Then low and behold, the urge to pick it up won’t go away and it is up in those little hands again, where it doesn’t belong !

So my prayer this evening is that whatever you carry that is a burden: lay it down.  Lay it down and leave it there!  Don’t pick it up again. Let it rest with Him as you rest there as well.

Blessings dear ones…
