The last few days I have been overwhelmed with one thought.
It is not like I did not know it. It is not like it is “news” to me as a believer. But it has stirred in my heart as if it was something I just heard for the first time.
We have read the story our entire Christian lives. We have seen the movies and dramatizations. We have cried as our Savior hung on the cross and asked the Father to “forgive them, for they know not what they do….”
He could have gotten down. He had all the angels at His disposal. He didn’t die on that cross because He had to…He died on that cross because He loves us.
He suffered an agony we cannot imagine. For you…and me.
Matthew 27:33-37 “They came to a place called Golgotha (which means The Place of the Skull). There they offered Jesus wine to drink, mixed with gall; but after tasting it, he refused to drink it. When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots. And sitting down, they kept watch over him there. Above his head they placed the written charge against him: THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
Since being back at the Contemporary Christian radio station three days a week, I have been able to enjoy the immersion of the gospel through song. I was reminded so many times about what really took place after Palm Sunday.
Christ’s love for us was totally encapsulated in that last week before His death. He was recognized for who He truly was, He taught, He prayed, He loved, He was betrayed, wrongly accused and crucified. For us.
The nails did not keep Jesus on the cross. LOVE did.
It is a bit overwhelming, isn’t it? That God loved US so much….that He gave HIS life for us.
I pray that this Easter season you allow that to seep into your very being. That the LOVE of Christ permeates every pore….that it starts at the top of your head and flows to the tip of your toes dear friends.
And remember…..that very Jesus is alive and well and loving you today!!
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son. That whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
