As a teacher in the public schools and a homeschooling mom…I have spent a lot of time with Valentine’s Day activities and teaching about love.

Toddlers:
There are so many activities to google and check out on pinterest. But I also felt like that this was a great time to talk about love…and the kinds of love that the Bible talks about…especially in light of the fact that we often speak of “loving hamburgers” like we do about “loving our children.”
Eros love is the Greek word that means “desire and longing.” And Eros is the name of the Greek god of love. This type of love is the intimacy that a husband and wife experience in their ma rriage. This love should provide an emotional and spiritual bonding.
Phileo love is the love you have for a companion or friend. Shared experiences between friends, brothers and sisters. But it can be up and down, based on feelings…so not that reliable. Interestingly enough, Philadelphia “The City of Brotherly Love” gets its name from this love.
Agape love is a special term which represents the divine-love of the Lord towards his Son Jesus Christ, the human beings and all believers. Agape is selfless, sacrificial, unconditional love, the highest of the four types of love. This love can only be experienced through Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
In a world that characterizes and portrays love in so many ways…Valentine’s Day might truly be a day to spend talking…and learning.
And don’t forget to make simple Valentines for each other, someday these will be stacked in your treasure box of days gone by…trust me.
